Christ Was Different From the World

In our world, many have vocally turned from or rejected God. Others claim to follow Him but go against what His Word tells us is good and true. It can be confusing to know what is right and what is not. As Christ-followers, we must always obey God over anything in this world. Sometimes, that means we must stand boldly against evil, and people may not like us or treat us well because of our clear stand for God. No matter who or what comes against us, as believers, it is so important that we continue shining the light of Christ and are willing to share the Gospel everywhere we go.

It is incredibly easy to hop on social media and argue with people who don’t share the same beliefs or who are living in sin. One of our biggest encouragements at A Life for Christ is to share the truth in love and let the Holy Spirit guide you as you share God’s truth with others. The way you speak to and treat people will ultimately shape how unbelievers think about Christians. They see “Christians,” who are supposed to be representing Christ, behaving in hateful and demeaning ways, and unbelievers assume that this is a faith they want no part of. Our witness is important; showing grace in our words and actions goes a long way.

Think about how Jesus interacted with the people He encountered. He was among sinners, liars, adulterers, and people who rejected Him daily. Jesus had compassion on them, but He did not withhold from sharing the TRUTH with them either. In John 8:1-11, the Pharisees brought a woman before Jesus who had been caught in the act of adultery. They intended to trap Jesus. If He recommended her release, they would accuse Jesus of breaking the law of Moses. If Jesus recommended stoning her, He could be accused of wanting to break the Roman law. However, Jesus didn’t fall into their trap. Instead, His response went against every norm the people of that time knew. It showed compassion, grace, forgiveness, and a call to action.

A Bible open to the Book of John

They kept demanding an answer, so He stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” …When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.” (John 8:7, 9-10 NLT)

Jesus did not encourage or support the sin that the woman was caught in, but He did not condemn her as a person either. He helped her recognize her sin, showed her compassion, and told her to go forward differently. How can we implement this approach in conversations with unbelievers and believers alike? Our prayer is that we will all exemplify Christ, care for people, and reject the sins that are quickly becoming normalized and accepted in the world.

At A Life for Christ, we hope to share encouragement, tough truths, and guidance with followers of Christ. We want to point you to scripture, led by the Holy Spirit, to find the truth. We want this to be a safe space for believers in any stage of their walk to come and be encouraged or learn more about walking with God.
